The Author

Phyllis Harrison Phyllis Harrison was born and grew up in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. After a first career in finance, lifelong interests and studies in language, history, law, and genealogy led to subsequent careers in teaching and writing. She loves historical trivia, reading historical nonfiction, and writing about nearly-forgotten time periods and events that shaped American and world history. Her current writing centers on Huguenot and Dutch history in the 1600s. She can be found sifting through ancient record books and maps in old courthouses or researching when she is not writing.

Phyllis Harrison's dedication of The Fires of Europe:      For my father and mother who left a legacy with this nearly-forgotten story to tell, Barry for his advice and technical expertise, and Joan, genealogical researcher extraordinaire.

Phyllis Harrison's dedication of Plowshares in the Palatinate:     For my father, who gave me a love of history and story-telling, my mother who left a legacy with this nearly-forgotten story to tell, Barry for his advice and technical expertise, and Joan, genealogical researcher extraordinaire.

For Frank and Jayne who listened to my stories, and for Glenn and Lynn who wouldn’t let me quit.

For adventurers and dreamers everywhere who will not give up on their aspirations, and finally, for all of our kin who have lived for a time in the Rhine River Valley: Those who were born there, those who only sojourned there, and those who are there still.
